Celebrate British Food Fortnight

Why it’s Important to Celebrate British Food Fortnight

Held in the autumn at the same time as harvest festival, British Food Fortnight is the biggest annual national celebration of British Food and Drink.  Since it started in 2002 British Food Fortnight has become THE opportunity to promote the benefits of buying and eating from our home produced British larder.

Provenance is our passion

Here at Tipple Tails HQ in South Yorkshire we are extremely passionate about the provenance of our ingredients and we work really hard to source all the ingredients and components for our mouth-watering cakes as close to home at Wadsley Hall Farm in Sheffield as possible.   We use great quality ingredients, and support local businesses to produce magnificent moist fruit cakes, packed with fruit and nuts:

The lovely rich Jersey butter comes from Longley Farm in Holmfirth, free range eggs from Amos at Dunsford Bridge, and our ‘Sunfruit’ flour, especially for fruit cake, is milled in Driffield by Bradshaws.  Vine and glace fruits, nuts, sugar and spice are from Shepcote, a family wholesaler, also in Driffield and S Hukin, a long established wholesale business trading in Sheffield.  The boozy fruit cakes are infused with the award winning Boozy Infusion liqueurs, made by Andy Gardiner, Master infuser from Beatson House in Cawthorne just a few miles from the kitchen; the ‘tea-total fruit cake slice’ with tea blended by Becky English, loose leaf tea champion of Birdhouse Tea Company in Sheffield and Sheffield Honey from our very local beekeeper Jez.

Our careful packaging choices

We are equally as careful with our choice of packaging materials too.  Each cake is wrapped in a biodegradable cellophane bag and tied with baker’s twine which is made in Lancashire. Even the paper cake cases are made in the Peak District and the pretty tin that the cake is packaged in comes from a long standing tin maker in London and can be used over and over again for all sorts of things, especially another Tipple Tails fruit cake!

Celebrating the simple things in life!

Each cake is hand crafted with great care, is big on flavour and is really good to eat – just lovely, uncomplicated food.

We will be supporting the promotion of British Food during British Food Fortnight and hope you enjoy the delights of discovering and eating food made with locally grown and sourced ingredients.
