Celebrate Yorkshire Day the Tipple Tails Way!

Yorkshire Day 1st August

Tipple Tails HQ is based in Sheffield in the south of ‘God’s own country’ and we are extremely passionate about all things Yorkshire!

We will be celebrating Yorkshire Day because we are incredibly proud of our Yorkshire roots and our philosophy is to do things really well and take the time to enjoy the simple pleasures in life.  In fact Tipple Tails in “Yorkshire Speak” means ‘head over heels’, a ‘backward flip’ or a ‘roly poly’ and conjures up images of childhood and innocent fun; the simple things in life. It is also used to describe a person who would bend over backwards to do something.

Local sourcing of ingredients is very important to us …

We work really hard to source all the ingredients and components for our mouth-watering cakes as close to home at Wadsley Hall Farm in Sheffield as possible.   We use fine ingredients, and support local Yorkshire businesses to produce magnificent moist fruit cakes, packed with fruit and nuts:

Lots of fantastic Yorkshire producers to work with …

The lovely rich Jersey butter comes from Longley Farm in Holmfirth, free range eggs from Amos at Dunsford Bridge, and our ‘Sunfruit’ flour, especially for fruit cake, is milled in Driffield by Bradshaws.  Vine and glace fruits, nuts, sugar and spice are from Shepcote, a family wholesaler, also in Driffield and S Hukin, a long established wholesale business trading in Sheffield.

The boozy fruit cakes are infused with the award winning Boozy Infusion liqueurs, made by Andy Gardiner, Master infuser from Beatson House in Cawthorne just a few miles from the kitchen; the ‘tea-total fruit cake slice’ with tea blended by Becky English, loose leaf tea champion of Birdhouse Tea Company in Sheffield and Sheffield Honey from our very local beekeeper Jez.

Each cake is hand crafted with great care, is big on flavour and is really good to eat – just lovely, uncomplicated food.

Although Yorkshire Day is a fairly modern celebration starting in 1975 – it is based on a long and colourful history and was created to raise the profile of the county’s proud heritage.

Time to celebrate!

In honour of the day and to celebrate all that is good about Yorkshire, we are running a competition to win a fabulous prize of a selection of Tipple Tail Mini Fruit Cakes.
